Depending on who’s asked, Cork is considered either the 2nd largest city of Ireland, or the 3rd largest city if you count North Ireland’s capital, Belfast. With one-tenth the population of Dublin, Cork has a population of about 119, 000.

Lonely Planet ranked Cork as one of the top ten cities to visit of 2010, and while everything within the city from food to entertainment is a walking distance, a car is a convenience when going into the suburbs. A must see is the immigration museum which commemorates the millions of Irish who left during the potato famine, along with a memorial to all those who boarded the Titanic at this last port of call in 1912. This self-guided museum takes about 2 hours and offers visitors a summary of Irish history of the last 200 years, complete with animatronic reenactments of Irish struggles.
