Once the sales strategy is known, the candidate can prepare for the interview. If he is applying for an internet sales position that focuses on volume, he can highlight experiences that showcase his ability to garner a large amount of clients quickly. Is the sales team conservative? Hip? Creative? These questions matter, because sales people are hired not only for their experience, but also for their personality. For example, the sales culture at a bank might be conservative and a candidate may be disqualified within five minutes of the interview for showing up without a jacket. In contrast, the sales culture at a teen cosmetics company is probably more hip and a candidate would be disqualified for not knowing what Twitter is.
