If there’s one person cut out to be a star in a reality show, it’s Eric Solomon. Confident, edgy, and passionate, this singer, songwriter and producer is out to take on the world in his own way. The continued success of his debut EP Antarctica and starring in MTV’s newest online reality show, The Youth Electric, is just the beginning of what’s to come from Eric Solomon.
Born in Montreal, Eric Solomon and his family moved to Kinshasa in the African Congo just 11 days after he was born. Solomon spent 13 years of his childhood there-an upbringing far different than one he would have experienced in Canada. “My life in the Congo was like Tom Sawyer’s life in the jungle,” says Solomon. While some kids grow up with a cat or dog as a pet, Solomon had a pet snake, which he’d wrap around his arm and go to school with. For Solomon, it was a different kind of playground growing up. The Congo was adventurous and a place Solomon says he felt connected to nature.
As time went on, adventure turned into danger as civil war broke out in the Congo. Solomon and his family were forced into hiding. “You have this beautiful life and all of a sudden you have these guns shooting in this paradise you grew up in”, explains Solomon. Amidst the violence, Solomon’s father was given one spot available for an evacuation flight bound for Israel. The one seat was given to Solomon.
