The Point Theatre Ireland
Most people celebrate St. Paddy’s Day by wearing green garments, displaying three-leaf-clover-shaped signs and ornaments, or drinking massive quantities of green beer, but there is much more to Patrick of Ireland than shamrocks and suds.
He achieved great things in the midst of great danger; but remained humble, constantly referring to himself as ignorant and unworthy even though he came from a background of wealth and privilege. A man who survived severe trauma as a youth, Patrick managed to transcend his sufferings and leave an indelible mark on both Irish and world history.
Patrick’s Childhood and Years as a Slave in Ireland
It's said that Patrick was born around the year 387, possibly in Scotland, to wealthy parent Calpornius and Conchessa. His father and grandfather, Potitus, were Christian church deacons. Notably, at the time, such a position conferred tax-exempt status on its holder. Britons of the time were heavily involved in worship of pagan gods, including Brigantia, Mithras, and Jupiter.
